The project

A parish center is being built at 218 S. Maple Ave. in Hannibal. The two-level structure will feature 5,400 square feet.

The parish offices will be housed in the new building. In addition there will be ample space for meetings and funeral luncheons.

There will be a kitchenette, restrooms and storage space for parish records on the lower level. The upper level will have a banquet room with seating for 100 people, a full kitchen and restrooms.

What’s
happening

With several inches of snow still on the ground outside, work was focused indoors at the parish center where progress is being made.

“They’re moving forward,” said Janice Rupp of Holy Family Church. “They’re finishing the walls upstairs and working on the drop ceilings.”

What’s next

“They’re preparing to paint,” said Rupp.

According to Rupp, once the drainage system is finished the lower parking lot will be poured, providing conditions are dry enough.

Anticipated cost

The projected cost of the construction project is $1,047,000.

Who’s paying

The money necessary to pay for the center has already been pledged by church members. The pledges were made over the past year during the “Living our Faith, Building our Vision” fund-raising campaign.

Projected date for completion

It was hoped that the new parish center would be ready for use by early 2014. At this point a completion date has not been set.
