Irma J. Torrey, 82, of Hannibal, MO, and formerly of Pekin, IL, and Lake City, Michigan, died at 7:46 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2014, at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Hannibal with Father Mike Quinn officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hannibal.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the church.
Mrs. Torrey was born August, 1, 1931, in Hannibal, MO, the daughter of John E. and Alma Mae Ross Jacobsmeyer.
She married Francis Torrey in Chicago, IL, in 1967. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Torrey is survived by two sisters, Shirley M Bridges of Hannibal, MO, Patricia Poor of Bethel, MO, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, E.R. Jacobsmeyer, and one sister, Frances B. Simpson.
Mrs. Torrey graduated from Hannibal High School in 1950 and St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1959. She worked in the nursing field her whole life until she retired. She served on the Board of Directors at the Illinois State Medical Auxiliary and was the first chairman of Family Health in the state of Illinois. Mrs. Torrey also served on the boards of the Heart Association and the United Way. During her time in Lake City she served on the Chamber of Commerce board and co-chaired the first Festival of the Pine. She attended Holy Family Catholic Church in Hannibal.
