  • Cub Scouts and Webelos in Pack No. 101 of Hannibal have been participating in patriotic services, along with learning from professionals and doing projects to help senior adults.
Their den leader, Laura Perfetto, requested to “let the community know local Scouts are doing projects to help the community and learn about the community.”
The pack is chartered by the POPS Club, which supports it financially.
Pack leader Paul Perfetto explained that funds from the Jaycees’ recent Wing Ding were donated to the pack. “We (the POPS Club) have the charter,” he added. “We are kinda their adopted parent.”
At a POPS Club meeting several months ago, the Scouts learned about different types of animals in Missouri, Laura said. They were taught by Chris Cox of the Missouri Department of Conservation.
The Scouts regularly participate in the Memorial Day service and flag raising at Grand View Funeral Home and Burial Park.
They also distributed flags to family members and helped raise flags on Nov. 8, 2013, during Grand View’s Veteran’s Day service.
Among those participating on Veteran’s Day were James Sims, Louis Perfetto, Nicholas Lawson, Noah Lawson, Bryce Cummings, Timothy Wellman and James Sims.
Additional Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, including those in Pack 117 in Hannibal, also participated in these patriotic events.
In October 2013 Scouts Noah Lawson, Nicholas Lawson and Louis Perfetto and troop leader Matt Lawson picked up trash along Warren Barrett Drive.
Another project involved the residents of Luther Manor Retirement and Nursing Center. “They made picture frames for every resident there,” Laura Perfetto said. The Cub Scouts “also put on a short skit and sang songs.”
Laura invited anyone interested in joining the Cub Scout pack or learning more about Scouting to call her at (217) 577-1244.
