  • Mrs. Ruth B. Hicks, age 84, of rural Durham, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

  • Mrs. Ruth B. Hicks, age 84, of rural Durham, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
    She was born Sept. 23, 1929, near Durham, a daughter of Reuben and Eunice Tucker Smyser. She married Chester Hicks, the love of her life, on Aug. 11, 1947, in her parents’ home on the family farm where she lived 83 of her 84 years.  He died Sept. 11, 2010. 
    Ruth was a member of the 48th Street Crossing Church in Quincy. Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. 
    She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Gunlock and friend Danny Dannenhauer of Lewistown, and Gayla Curry and her husband, Ray, of Hannibal; one granddaughter, Amber Dutra and her husband, Kris, of Santa Maria, Calif.; two great-grandchildren, Casey and Alyssa Dutra of Santa Maria, Calif.; two stepgrandchildren, Jimmy Curry of Greenfield, Ill., and Rachel Curry of Jacksonville, Ill.; one brother, Roy Smyser and his wife, Hazel, of Lewistown, Mo., and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother and sister.
    Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing with Rev. Chris Lefever officiating. Burial will be in the Durham Cemetery, Durham, Mo. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing.
    The family suggest memorials be made to the Durham Cemetery Association.
    Pallbearers will be: Johnny Kraft, Mike Schmidt, Victor Raleigh, Raymond Echo, Bill Carpenter and Jeff Moore.
