  • The project
A parish center is being built at 218 S. Maple Ave. in Hannibal. The two-level structure will feature 5,400 square feet.
The parish offices will be housed in the new building. In addition there will be ample space for meetings and funeral luncheons.
There will be a kitchenette, restrooms and storage space for parish records on the lower level. The upper level will have a banquet room with seating for 100 people, a full kitchen and restrooms.

    What’s
    happening
With the temperature well below zero Thursday morning, work was focused indoors at the parish center where progress is being made.
“It’s looking pretty good. They’ve got the downstairs painted and a good portion of the drop ceiling in. Some of the interior doors are finished and hung. They’re also working on the trim,” said Janice Rupp of Holy Family Church. “Upstairs they’re finishing the mudding.
“They’re also putting water-repellant paneling materials up on the bathroom walls upstairs and downstairs.”

    What’s next
“Probably next week they’ll be painting it (upstairs) and then they’ll do the drop ceiling upstairs,” said Rupp.
According to Rupp, once the drainage system is finished the lower parking lot will be poured, providing conditions are dry enough.

    Anticipated cost
The projected cost of the construction project is $1,047,000.

    Who’s paying
The money necessary to pay for the center has already been pledged by church members. The pledges were made over the past year during the “Living our Faith, Building our Vision” fund-raising campaign.

    Projected date for completion
It was hoped that the new parish center would be ready for use by early 2014. At this point a completion date has not been set.
“It’s a beehive of activity down there,” said Rupp. “They’re continuing every day working toward the move-in date as quickly as weather will allow. .”
