Hannibal City Councilmen James Hark and Jamie Locke will be running unopposed when the April 8 municipal election takes place. They were the only candidates to sign up from the Fifth Ward and Sixth Ward, respectively.
The deadline to sign up was 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21.
Locke has sat on the Council since December 2012 when the City Council appointed him to fill the vacant Sixth Ward seat.
Locke succeeded Dr. Richard Draper, who resigned from the Council in late October 2012 because of work conflicts.
According to city ordinances, Locke could only serve until the next scheduled municipal election, which took place last April when he ran unopposed.
That win gave Locke the right serve out the remainder of the unexpired term.
Locke is now guaranteed his first full term on the Council.
Ironically, Hark also was initially appointed to fill a vacancy on the Council. In 2010 he was selected in August to fill the Fifth Ward vacancy created when Jim Behymer resigned in June of that year.
Hark was elected to a full term by Fifth Ward voters for the first time in April 2011 when he ran unopposed.
