Mary E. Sims Thompson, formerly of Hannibal, Mo., born July 7, 1938, in Trenton, Mo, to Pinkie D. and Vella I. Sims of Hannibal, passed away at Holmesdale Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Kansas City, Mo., on Jan. 14, 2014.
Mary was a member of Hannibal Senior High School class of 1956. Survivors include son Robert (Jane) Morriss of Liberty, IL; daughters, Deneta Smashey (Steve) of Kansas City, Mo., and Diane Whitley (Matt) of Hannibal; and son, John Thompson (Paula) of Hull Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Darrell Morriss Smashey; brothers, Donald, Gary, Lester and Larry Sims; grandson, Christopher Stone; and great grandson Anthony Valentini.
Mary is also survived by grandchildren, Matthew Stone, Angelique Valentini, Bo Morriss, Lucas Morriss, Madaline and Reese Thompson; and great-grandchildren Mya and Raiden Stone, Nathan and Mark Morriss, Samantha, Isabella and Alexander Valentini, Logan and Cameron Morriss. She also had numerous nieces and nephews who she enjoyed. Her living siblings are James Sims and Joyce Shinn of Hannibal. She was formerly employed by Atlantic Steel, and as a caregiver for Shinn Residential Center of Hannibal. Mary also was a former member of HRH Auxillary. Mary enjoyed music, comedies, travel, playing bingo, and other games.
The family requests memorials to Children's Mercy Hospital Cancer Center in Kansas City, Mo., in memory of Christoper Stone; and in memory of Anthony Valentini at St. Louis Children's Hospital In St. Louis, Mo.
