  • The project
A parish center is being built at 218 S. Maple Ave. in Hannibal. The two-level structure will feature 5,400 square feet.
The parish offices will be housed in the new building. In addition there will be ample space for meetings and funeral luncheons.
There will be a kitchenette, restrooms and storage space for parish records on the lower level. The upper level will have a banquet room with seating for 100 people, a full kitchen and restrooms.
    What’s
    happening
“The guys are working inside today. They’re working on drywall,” said  Janice Rupp of Holy Family Church. “They’ve got the electricals roughed in and the plumbing is roughed in. They’re just working on different things inside.
“I think the drainage system is pretty much finished, but I don’t know that for sure.”
    What’s next
“It looks to me like they’ve finished the siding on the outside except for the south side and I’m assuming that’s not done because they haven’t backfilled that side yet. I expect they’re going to wait to do dirt work before they finish that up,” said Rupp.
According to Rupp, once the drainage system is finished the lower parking lot will be poured, providing conditions are dry enough.

    Anticipated cost
The projected cost of the construction project is $1,047,000.
    Who’s paying
The money necessary to pay for the center has already been pledged by church members. The pledges were made over the past year during the “Living our Faith, Building our Vision” fund-raising campaign.
    Projected date for completion
It was hoped that the new parish center would be ready for use by early 2014, but that won’t be the case.
“They’ve got a lot to do on the inside. They don’t even have all the drywall up. It’s going to be a while and that’s OK,” said Rupp, adding a construction meeting is scheduled next week.
