The Affordable Community Education citizen’s group has announced that BASF of Hannibal, Mo., has continued its annual gift to Affordable Community Education in support of the Moberly Area Community College satellite campus that will be located in Hannibal.
Mike McFarlane, site manager for BASF Hannibal, stated, “BASF is committed to supporting education in our community. As a major employer in the area, we are constantly looking for qualified scientists, engineers and production operators with the skills necessary to succeed in the workplace.”
On Dec. 11 of this year, BASF delivered a check in the amount of $1,500 to Affordable Community Education. To date, BASF has given a total of $12,100 to elp in building the MACC Hannibal Satellite Campus. McFarlane concludes, “We are proud to contribute to this venture in bringing a new MACC facility to Hannibal and look forward to supporting Affordable Community Education in the future.”
Affordable Community Education was founded to address the local issue of limited opportunities for higher education and targeted technical training.
Ninety-four percent of Hannibal area high school students surveyed indicated the desire to continue their education after graduation, but the rising higher education costs have stood in their way. A community college education allows students to earn the first two years of a four-year degree in an affordable way.
