  • The project
A parish center is being built at 218 S. Maple Ave. in Hannibal. The two-level structure will feature 5,400 square feet.
The parish offices will be housed in the new building. In addition there will be ample space for meetings and funeral luncheons.
There will be a kitchenette, restrooms and storage space for parish records on the lower level. The upper level will have a banquet room with seating for 100 people, a full kitchen and restrooms.
    What’s
    happening
Siding has been added to a portion of the building in the past week. Workers have also begun the process of finishing the interior.
“They’re working hot and heavy on the inside. They tell me they’re dry walling the lower floor, but I don’t know that. I know the electrical people have been in there, the heating and air conditioning people have been in there,” said Janice Rupp of Holy Family Church. “They’ve put a good portion of the siding up and they were working on the lower part, to get the siding up.”

    What’s next
“We’re looking at the phone system (being installed soon),” said Rupp.
According to Rupp, once the drainage system is finished the lower parking lot will be poured, providing conditions are dry enough.

    Anticipated cost
The projected cost of the construction project is $1,047,000.
    Who’s paying
The money necessary to pay for the center has already been pledged by church members. The pledges were made over the past year during the “Living our Faith, Building our Vision” fund-raising campaign.
    Projected date for completion
It is hoped that the new parish center will be ready for use by early 2014.
Because of recent weather delays, Rupp doesn’t know if the completion date will have to be pushed back.
Each week, the Courier-Post is documenting the improvements taking place on the parish center. For more information, contact:
