The Marion County Ambulance District and Survival Flight, Inc., will be providing “Home for the Holidays” service on Christmas Day this year.
According to Marion County Ambulance Chief John Nemes, the program is a great way to give a special gift to a family member or friend.
“It’s a service we offer to help families bring a loved one in a skilled care facility back home to spend Christmas Day,” said Nemes. “Some of these residents are bed or wheelchair confined and can’t leave a facility by any other means than an ambulance.”
Both Marion County and Survival Flight have employees who will be volunteering their time to provide the service.
Anyone interested in this service should contact the ambulance district to schedule a pick-up and return time. Pick-up will be on Christmas Day between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. The return time will be between the hours of 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Pick-up and delivery should be within the boundaries of the ambulance district or within 30 miles of the local facility. Nemes also said that any special needs should be mentioned when scheduling times.
For information or to schedule a time, contact the ambulance district at (573) 221-5510, Extension 404.
