With the safety of students first priority, the Monroe City R-1 School District evacuated the high school and locked down the middle and elementary schools Wednesday following the discovery of a bomb threat.
In a news release issued later in the day, school officials report that a bomb threat was discovered approximately 10:20 a.m. Building personnel were alerted. Law enforcement officials were notified and arrived on the scene within two minutes. Fire and ambulance personnel also responded.
Officials conducted a thorough search of the building, but no susicious or dangerous items were found.
Arrangements were made to dismiss school at 1:30 p.m.
