  • Helen Elizabeth Maher, 95, of Monroe City, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at the Hannibal Regional Hospital, Hannibal, Missouri.

  • Helen Elizabeth Maher, 95, of Monroe City, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at the Hannibal Regional Hospital, Hannibal, Missouri.
    She was born November 24, 1917, in Monroe City, Missouri, the daughter of Adolph and Anna Montgomery Adam. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Monroe City, Missouri. She graduated from St. Stephens High, Indian Creek, Missouri. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed spending time at the Monroe City Nutrition Center visiting with her friends. Helen also enjoyed reading books when she had time.
    She married Joseph Maher May 24, 1941, he preceded her in death June 5, 1985.
    Survivors include three sons: Patrick Maher (Joyce), Osage Beach, Missouri; Michael Maher (Patricia), Kearney, Missouri and Jerry Maher (Diane), Gilfrod, New Hampshire; three daughters: Mary Burns (Hank), St. Louis, Missouri, Kathy Kendrick, Linn, Missouri, and Carol Cary (John), St. Louis, Missouri; two brothers, Richard Adam (Rusty), Monroe City, Missouri, and Martin Adam (Charolotte), Quincy, Illinois. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; one brother in law, Harold Hall; and two sisters in law, Bernice Pollard and Patty Winters.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers, John, Paul, Howard, Melvin and Adam; two infant children; three sisters, Margaret Yager, Lucille Thomas and Theresa Hall; and one son in law, Larry Kendrick.
    Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Monroe City, Missouri, Father Mike Penn will officiate. Burial will be from the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Monroe City. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday with the Daughters of Isabella reciting the Rosary at 4:45 p.m. and the Parish having a Scripture serivce at 7 p.m. at the Garner Funeral Home, Monroe City, Missouri.
    Active pallbearers will be Jeff Maher, Eric Kendrick, Hank Burns, Lein Shory, Travis Ousley and Jason Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Maher, Nathan Maher, Charlie Sellberg, David Ridley, Matt Michetti, Forrest Vanderbilt, Rick Hawkins and Kevin Patterson.
    Memorials have been suggested to the Holy Rosary School, Holy Rosary Church or Monroe City Nutrition Center. Garner Funeral Home and Chapel, Monroe City, Missouri is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences can be made at garnerfuneralchapel.com.
