Several World War II veterans were in Hannibal’s 2013 Veterans’ Day parade on Saturday, Nov. 9.
Some were riding in vans provided by the nursing homes where they reside. Others were in individual cars.
One greeting the crowd from the back seat of a convertible was Babe Rouse, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
A large group of veterans rode motorcycles in the parade, some including the youngest generation of their family.
Numerous businesses added flags to their vehicles, as did individuals driving their Corvettes and other special cars.
The parade watchers were not only honoring the veterans in this year’s parade, they were remembering their family members who had served the country many years ago.
Among them were Sarah Hathaway and her children, Emma and Noah. Both of Sarah’s grandfathers were veterans of World War II. They were the late Robert (Bob) Stone and the late J.D. McGowan.
