The project

A parish center is being built at 218 S. Maple Ave. in Hannibal. The two-level structure will feature 5,400 square feet.

The parish offices will be housed in the new building. In addition there will be ample space for meetings and funeral luncheons.

There will be a kitchenette, restrooms and storage space for parish records on the lower level. The upper level will have a banquet room with seating for 100 people, a full kitchen and restrooms.

What’s
happening

After rain slowed exterior work earlier in the week, Bleigh Construction personnel were moving materials atop the structure on Thursday. Janice Rupp of Holy Family Church indicated that is a positive bit of information.

“They could be getting ready to put up the wall uprights,” she said, adding that a construction meeting with the contractor was scheduled Thursday.

What’s next

“After the uprights are put up the next step will be to get it under roof. I’m sure they still really want to do that,” said Rupp.

Anticipated cost

The projected cost of the construction project is $1,047,000.

Who’s paying

The money necessary to pay for the center has already been pledged by church members. The pledges were made over the past year during the “Living our Faith, Building our Vision” fund-raising campaign.

Projected date for completion

It is hoped that the new parish center will be ready for use by early 2014.

Because of recent weather delays, Rupp doesn’t know if the completion date will have to be pushed back.

“We can roll with the punches and make the best of the situation,” she said.
