Video conferencing equipment installed in all the courthouses in the 10th Judicial Circuit in August 2013 made it possible for Judge Rachel Bringer Shepherd to conduct a hearing for murder suspect Michael Studer on Monday, without him leaving the confines of the Marion County Jail at Palmyra.
Through his attorney, Jennifer Richardson of the public defender’s office,  Studer waived his arraignment and entered a plea of not guilty to murder in the second degree, a Class A felony.
His next scheduled court date is  9:30 a.m. Dec. 18 in Hannibal.
Studer is charged in the Oct. 8 murder of Adrienne Arnett, who was working the night shift at a Shinn Lane convenience store the night she was killed.
While Studer wasn’t in the courtroom, Arnett’s family was, including her husband, daughter and sister-in-law, all seated on the front row of the Circuit Courtroom, listening, but not seeing, the suspect.
