Wayne Harbourn, president of MTAHFH said, "Some of the criteria involved in the family selection process would be family economic guidelines based on the median income as defined by the DEH and UD for Marion County. Applicants must be U.S. citizens/permanent residents. Applicants names cannot appear on sexual offender listing. Applicants must have adequate income to make mortgage payments on the house. Applicants cannot have filed for bankruptcy within the last 12 months, and the applicants must demonstrate a need for adequate shelter."
The Board of Directors has been working very hard in the community in an effort to raise money to start the next Habitat house, Harbourn said, adding that thanks to many merchants, businesses and individuals, the board is at the point where all that is needed now is the family. "We are ready to start building a house for someone to turn into a home," said Harbourn.
Anyone interested in qualifying for a Habitat house is requested to attend a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Shirley Bomar Community Center, 3614 Navajo St., in Hannibal. Applicants must be present at the meeting to be considered.
For more information, contact Harbourn at (573) 221-0104.
