  • The decorated pumpkins in the contest Sunday, Oct. 27, in Nipper Park have been taken to Hannibal City Hall to be on display until after Halloween.
Prizes - donated by SC Contact Centers - were awarded in three categories: scariest, most original and best traditional, in both the youth (age 12 and under) and adult (13 and older) divisions in this Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department event.
The pumpkins were to be decorated but not carved or hollowed out.
Among the most creative - and timely - was a pumpkin painted as a baseball, with the St. Louis Cardinals playing in the World Series later on Sunday.
Nathan Thompson, 4, had painted his pumpkin green and added colorful fangs. His 2-year-old sister, Becca Thompson, had a pretty pumpkin with a fancy net hairdo.
Andrew Clark was proud of the white ghost pumpkin and the green witch pumpkin he and his mother had decorated.
Faith Watkins, 4, brought a witch pumpkin with candy corn teeth. Her sister, 10-year-old Emma Watkins, had decorated her pumpkin with candy corn and a round candy nose.
Another pumpkin had a white ghost face made with miniature marshmallows.
Jorie Thompson, 7, displayed her “lady” pumpkin with a purple skirt and fancy pink hairdo.
The winners were chosen by a vote of the people attending the “Pumpkin Path” contest Sunday in Nipper Park.
Tom and Becky, aka Keaton Bartz and Shelbie Mays, were on hand to award the prizes.
Winners of the youth division were:
    • Scariest - Luke Koenig, first place; and Andrew Clark, second.
    • Most original - Andrea Altiser, first; and Zion Pratt, second.
    • Best traditional - Andrew Clark, first; and Faith Watkins, second.
    Adult division winners were:
    • Scariest - Denise Altiser, first; and Breonna Bunch, second.
    • Most original - Lisa Bunch, first; and Breonna Bunch, second.
    • Best traditional - Breonna Bunch, first; and Celia Thompson, second.
After the pumpkins have been displayed in the hallway at City Hall, they will be picked up by the owners after Halloween.
