Nixon appoints two Supreme Court Justices
Two Supreme Court Justices--Hugo Black and John H. Harlan--resigned within a week of each other in 1971. Both were in ill health. President Richard Nixon nominated two Justices on October 21 1971--Lewis F. Powell, Jr. and William H. Rehniquist--to replace them.
