  • Marvin E. “Gene” Garner, 78, of Ewing, Mo., died Friday, October 18, 2013, in Country Aire Retirement Estates at Lewistown, Mo.

  • Marvin E. “Gene” Garner, 78, of Ewing, Mo., died Friday, October 18, 2013, in Country Aire Retirement Estates at Lewistown, Mo.
    Gene was born December 16, 1934, in Quincy, Ill., a son of James and Lucy Saxbury Garner.
    He married Leta Pearl Wiley in La Grange, Mo., on December 23, 1952. She died on May 19, 2001.
    Gene worked for Moorman Manufacturing until 1979. He later was an owner and operator truck driver for Chester Bross for 25 years. He enjoyed running his bulldozer, working in his garden and he enjoyed Sunday family dinners. He was an avid animal lover.
    Gene is survived by his special friend, Donna Wolf of Ewing; five children, Carolyn (Kerry) Abell of Durham, Mo., James (Roberta) Garner of Canton, Mo., Randy Garner of Monticello, Mo., Carma (Larry) Caldwell of Canton and Dennis (Sara) Garner of Durham; 13 grandchildren, Regina Lair, Lucy Sparrow, Bobby Lair, James (Flopper) Garner, Jayme Hickerson, John Garner, Adam Garner, Danielle, Kristyn and Brianna Caldwell and Gregory, Derek and Cassidee Garner; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Garner and Wayne (Diane) Garner, both of Maywood; and many nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leta; one brother Howard Garner; and two sisters-in-law, Maxine Garner and Audrey Garner.
    Funeral services will be today, October 22, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing with Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Burial will be at Durham Cemetery, Durham, Mo.
    Visitation was Monday, October 21, 2013, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with family receiving friends after 6 p.m. at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home.
    The family suggests memorials be made to the Durham Cemetery Association, in care of Ball-Davis Funeral Home, Ewing, Mo.

    Pallbearers will be Donnie McDowell, Jerry Daggs, Benny Hines, Johnny Kraft, Timmy Goings and Roger Goings.
    Honorary pallbearers will be James (Flopper) Garner, Bobby Lair, John Garner, Adam Garner, Gregory Garner and Derek Garner.
