Hannibal-LaGrange University has announced the addition of a Bachelor of Science in Social Work major. An informational meeting regarding this new major will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 6 p.m. in the Burt Administration Building, room 215.
The new social work major will begin in 2014 and will be offered in the traditional day class format as well as in the ADVANCE Program accelerated format which meets one night per week.
The field of social work is quickly growing and the job market is expected to increase 25 percent by the year 2020, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Nationally, social workers earn an average of $55,000 a year.
During the meeting, traditional program students will meet with Dean Schoonover, Chair, Division of Social Science, and Assistant Professor for Sociology and Social Work. Degree completion students will meet with Marc Hurt, Director of ADVANCE Program. Attendees are encouraged to bring a copy of their college transcripts for a degree plan that will be completed that evening.
With an associate’s degree (AS or AA) or its equivalent, from an accredited institution, students may be able to complete a bachelor’s degree in as little as 19 months.
