Hannibal-LaGrange University recognized the annual alumni award winners during the 2013 Homecoming Friday Entertainment on Oct. 4. This year’s Distinguished Alumnus award went to John D. Zimmer.
Originally from Vandalia, John Zimmer received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from HLGU in 1991. John is also a graduate of the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin.
From 1991 to 1993 John worked at Boatmen’s bank in Quincy. Since then, he has been employed at HNB in Hannibal, where he became the president and CEO in December of 2011.
John has served as a board member of Hannibal Chamber of Commerce, the Hannibal YMCA, and the United Way. Currently he is a board member of HNB, Hannibal Regional Hospital, American Red Cross, and the NEMO Community Development Corporation.
While attending HLGU, John was a pitcher on the baseball team. On April 18, 1989, he threw the first no hitter in the history of the college during a game against Webster University.
John is married to his wife, Cobi, and they have one daughter, Jordan. His passions include family, being a dad, sports and hunting.
The Distinguished Alumnus award is the most prestigious award presented to a Hannibal-LaGrange graduate for significant and broad accomplishments in business or professional life or for state or nation. This award is for developed talent that reflects favorably on the quality of Hannibal-LaGrange University, the faculty, and the administration. The alumni must be distinguished in his or her chosen business, profession or life work; they must be a person of great integrity, stature, demonstrated ability and renown in which the faculty, staff, students and alumni of the college can take pride, and be inspired by his or her recognition.
