WHAT IS IT? The historic Old Baptist Cemetery in Hannibal is a far cleaner site after Board of Works personnel donated their time to clean up the site on Tuesday and Wednesday.
After two full days of labor by Hannibal Board of Works personnel, the Old Baptist Cemetery was looking quite a bit different.
BPW volunteers helped work on trees downed during the May 20 storm and also did general clean-up work.
“It’s very rewarding,” said Cindy Livesay, director of communications for the BPW. “It looks like a whole different place.”
According to Livesay, as BPW workers trimmed on the brush some headstones were revealed that had previously been covered.
“That’s why we’re continuing to cut the brush back,” she said.
The BPW’s work at the cemetery was part of its observance of Public Utilities Week.
On Monday, BPW personnel performed home and yard work at the residences of two Hannibal war veterans.
From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today will be the BPW’s Family Fun Night. It will take place at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center.
