Although Hannibal’s County Market in Steamboat Bend Shopping Center is open 24 hours, some special events are planned from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 1.
At 5:30 p.m. the store will have a ribbon cutting grand re-opening ceremony to celebrate its remodeling and expansion of services, according to Gerry Kettler, director of consumer affairs with Niemann Foods, owner of County Market.
Between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. the new salad bar will be open, and foods also will be cooked in the new Asian fresh wok. The expanded dining area is nearby, and meats will be offered in the deli from the new “Smokin’ Jack’s” barbecue.
“We are smoking County Market’s own meats and it will also be available in the deli,” Kettler said. “It is a whole new shopping experience. ... And the public is invited to come and sample the new Asian fresh wok.
“While we have done a complete remodel and added a lot of new services, we also added over 35 new jobs,” he said. “With the expanded department we needed to expand the service, so we have added jobs and have almost 150 people employed, but we have maintained the price structure. All the good prices and the good sales will remain to be important.”
Also during the celebration, Kettler said, “we are donating one ton of canned goods to Douglass Community Services. That is our way of giving back to the community and helping celebrate the Hannibal area.”
