  • Ruth M. Betz, 85, of New London, died at 12:24 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family.

  • Ruth M. Betz, 85, of New London, died at 12:24 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family.
    Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Grand View Funeral Home in Hannibal.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at the Grand View Funeral Home in Hannibal. Pastor Tom Day of the New London Christian Church will officiate. Burial will follow at the Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
    Mrs. Betz was born on Thursday, January 26, 1928, in Palmyra, the daughter of Carl K. and Hazel L. (Schroder) Drebes.
    She married Donald Betz in the preacher’s home in Palmyra, and he preceded her in death in March 1996.   
    Her parents, two daughters, Teresa Kay Tonsor and Deana Marie Pritchett; a brother, Donald Eugene Drebes; a grandchild, John Clarkson; a great-grandchild, Mya Christine Miller Warfield; and three sons-in-law, Wayne Miller, Bill Shulse and Terry Johnson also preceded her in death.
    She is survived by five daughters, Connie Miller of New London, Carol (Gilbert) Cox of Hannibal, Donna Shulse of Center, Jane (Ronnie) Charlton of Hannibal and Carmen Johnson of New London; 17 grandchildren, Debbie, Carrie, Donnie, Mandy, Jamie, Jessi, Tracey, Michael, Jill, Ranae, Michelle, Ashley, Karl, Kristen, Taylor, Tyler and Lisa; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
    Ruth was a Ralls County Democratic Committee Woman, belonged to the Democratic Club and served as an Election Judge for many years. She graduated from the Palmyra High School and was an active member of the Ralls County PTA. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of New London.
    Memorials may be sent to the Ralls County Health Department or the Shiloh Children’s Ranch.
