Delmar McClain, 91, of Hannibal, Missouri, passed away, at 1 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013, at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. Louis, Missouri.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 3, 2013, at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Brother Gregg Koelliker will officiate. Burial with full military honors by Emmette J Shields American Legion Post No. 55 will be at the Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home.
Mr. McClain was born December 4, 1921, in Hannibal, Missouri, to Cleve and Hazel Frederick McClain.
He was married to Lillie Taylor on June 4, 1942, in New London, Mo. She preceded him in death in 2002.
Survivors include one sister, Frances Stombaugh; two grandchildren, Devon McClain (Robin) and Dana McClain Baker (John); five great-grandchildren, Caleigh, Connor, Andrew, Delaney, and Joey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Don McClain, daughter-in-law, Connie McClain; four brothers; Robert, Carl, Charles and Leroy McClain; and two sisters, Leona Dwyer and Elnora Hendren.
Mr. McClain was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country in China during World War II.
After his time in the service Mr. McClain joined the Hannibal Fire Department, where he served for over 30 years. He retired as Hannibal fire chief in 1983.
