  • If a new tourism outreach is successful, more hockey fans may soon be found walking the streets of Hannibal.
According to Gail Bryant, director of the Hannibal Convention and Visitors Bureau, the HCVB will be partnering with the Missouri Division of Tourism in a new international outreach that will be targeting Canada.
“It’s a tremendous opportunity for Hannibal because we’re going to be able to promote internationally,” she said. “It’s going to be an enhancement to our marketing plan right now.”
Research has shown that Canadians are particularly interested in certain sites and historic figures from the Show-Me State.
“What they (state tourism) have shared with us is the top three reasons why international travelers come to Missouri is No. 1 to see the arch, to know about Jesse James, and of course, Mark Twain,” said Bryant.
Hannibal is no stranger to foreign guests.
“We see a lot of international visitors. Definitely from Canada, but also from Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Japan,” said Bryant, adding residents from those countries were seen in America’s Hometown in just a week’s time. “It (marketing internationally) is a good fit for us.”
The new international outreach program will begin in the spring of 2014.
“That will be rolling into the next season, not that this (tourism) season has ended because we’re going to take it through December,” said Bryant.
