  • The Public Water Supply District No. 1 of Ralls County announced Sept. 9 it had recently approved a water rate increase to help offset higher charges it will begin paying for water.
The City of Hannibal Board of Public Works recently notified the water district it will increase its water rate to the district by 4 percent and increase the district’s point of delivery charges by 1 percent beginning Sept. 26.
The water district determined an annual increase in revenue of $27,000 from district customers will be necessary to offset the increase from Hannibal, in order to continue meeting the district’s legal and bond requirements.
The district board has approved an increase of $0.90 to the monthly minimum base (service availability rate). It will be effective on all bills dated after Sept. 26, with the monthly minimum rates increasing from $21.10 to $22 per month.
The minimum will still include the first 1,000 gallons of water at no additional charge. The rates and charges for over 1,000 gallons each month remains the same. Only the monthly minimum bill increases.
The district announced there is no change in sewer rates at this time.
