  • Heading into the third week of the season, the North Central Missouri Conference will finally be getting conference play underway.
Hannibal, Moberly, and Fulton were all winners last week in its non-conference games while Boonville, Marshall, Mexico, and Kirksville all lost. At this point in the season, only two teams are undefeated, Moberly and Fulton.
Moberly is currently ranked No. 7 in the state rankings for Class 4 schools and the Spartans will be heading to Kirksville on Friday. Last season Moberly shutout Kirksville 31-0.
As for the Tigers, Kirksville is one of just two teams in the NCMC to have a 1-1 record. After winning its season opener, Kirksville fell to Chillicothe 38-28 last week.
The only other team to sport a 1-1 record is Hannibal. The Pirates lost their season opener, but bounced back in the form of a 42-27 win over Battle High School in Columbia. With the win, Hannibal crept back into the Class 4 top 10 state rankings. The Pirates hold the No. 10 spot.
This week Hannibal will be on the road again as the Pirates travel to Boonville for their conference opener. Overall, Hannibal is 4-1 in its five career games against Boonville with the one loss coming in 2011. Last year the Pirates crushed Boonville 41-12.
As for Boonville, it is one of three NCMC teams that have not won yet this year. In two games, Boonville has managed to score just once.
The final NCMC matchup this week will be Marshall and Mexico. Neither team has won yet this year, so someone will have to come out a winner. Last year Marshall beat Mexico 35-15 as it started a winning streak against conference foes.
With seven teams in the NCMC, while the rest of the conference is beating up on each other, one team will always be playing a non-conference game. This week that  one team is Fulton. The Hornets will be hosting North Callaway. The Thunderbirds are 1-1. North Calaway was blanked 31-0 by South Callaway in its opener before edging out Tipton 26-20 last week. Game time is 7 p.m.
