  • This week marks the real kick-off of the 2013 football season, as the Brookfield Bulldogs will welcome the Mark Twain Tigers to Burlington Field in a Clarence Cannon Conference battle. Due to expected excessive heat, game time has been pushed back to 8 p.m.
The Dogs seem ready to go, at least according to their Head Coach, and are coming in off of last week's Jamboree and a summer full of activity.
“I think the team is gaining confidence in itself,” said Head Coach Nile Thudium.   “We think we've established an identity offensively and are beginning to eliminate mistakes.   They are excited about getting the season started.”
Offensively, the Dogs will have to compete with a large line, and a run-first attitude from the Tigers. “Mark Twain is always big and physical,” said Coach Thudium.   “They will try to impose their will on us with a physical running game.   We must respond to that challenge.”
Defensively, Mark Twain will look to challenge the Brookfield running attack, and force passes. The Dogs can expect to see a lot of pressure on the football.
“They will be in a Split 6 look,” began Coach Thudium. “This involves a 4-4 formation with the outside linebackers rolled up on the line.   They will load the box on us and bring a lot of pressure.”
This week, and for the near future, Brookfield will be without standout sophomore Reed McBroom, who is suffering from an ankle fracture. McBroom is an All-Conference and All-District player from last season.
This will probably be the final bout between these two teams, as Mark Twain is in their final season in the Clarence Cannon Conference. The Tigers will be looking to a new conference that is a little closer to their home in Center.
