The children of Frances S. and J.M. Mitchell gave their parents a 50th wedding anniversary celebration on Aug. 3, 2013. The two-part reception was on the Mark Twain Riverboat, then followed by a catered luncheon at the Wine Stoppe. Twenty-six members of their extended family flew in from several states for the family reunion and pictures.
Frances is the daughter of the late Myron and Johanna Mischanski of Clifton, N.J. James is the son of the late James and Lorean Mitchell of Hannibal.
Jim and Fran were married on Aug. 24, 1963, in Clifton, N.J.
They are parents of Jay Mitchell (Veronica) of Houston, Texas, Laura Smith of Louisiana, and Amy Knickerbocker (Kevin) of Hannibal. Fran and Jim have nine grandchildren.
Fran and Jim are both graduate chemists from the University of Delaware. Their children were all born in Delaware but grew up in Georgia.
Fran worked for DuPont as a patent analyst.
Jim worked as a process chemist for Hercules and a plant manager for Exxon chemical.
After leaving the chemical industry, they made their home in Hannibal, where they owned and operated Big River Discount Books for nine years.
