Hannibal-LaGrange University’s third annual Alumni & Friends Work Day took place Aug. 17. Approximately 30 HLGU alumni and friends from across Missouri and Illinois joined together to help prepare the campus for students.
New students will be welcomed to campus from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, with the Swarm Squad welcoming them as they drive onto the HLGU campus. First-time students and their parents will receive a “welcome home” from the president and first lady, Dr. and Mrs. Anthony Allen, as they enter the main gate. Then the Swarm Squad, a group of over 40 upper classmen, faculty, and staff responsible for moving all new students into their dorm rooms, will swarm the vehicles and unload the vehicles for students and parents.
That same day, the annual Walk of Honor will be held at 5 p.m. following student and parent orientations. Faculty, staff, upperclassmen, alumni, and parents will line the walkway from the Roland Fine Arts Center to the Burt Administration Building. New students will walk single file as they pass parents and HLGU “family.” The students will pass through the HLGU arch where President Allen will welcome them with a handshake. Students will then gather around the Trinity Tree, located between the L.A. Foster Student Center and the Burt Administration Building, for a final word of encouragement and a prayer of dedication.
HLGU Welcome Week and New Student Orientation are filled with activities, such as a downtown scavenger hunt, worship services, HLGU Activities Fair, the Matriculation Banquet, dorm parties, a marshmallow roast, and an Ultimate Frisbee Competition.
Fall classes begin on Tuesday, Aug. 27.
