Karl ‘Jake’ Wayne Jacobson, 75, of Hannibal, MO, died at 4 a.m., Friday, August 16, 2013, at University Hospital in Columbia, MO. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013, at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel in Hannibal. Burial will follow at Grand View Burial Park. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Karl was born April 24, 1938, in Hannibal, MO, the son of Wilbur Wayne and Mary Jayne (Delaney) Jacobson.
Survivors include one son, Kevin Wayne Jacobson (Cheryl) of Phoenix, AZ; one daughter, Janet Canavan of Quincy, IL; one step-daughter, Gina Saxbury (Randy) of Hannibal, MO; one step-son, Donnie Ray Daniels (Shelley) of Jefferson City, MO; and five grandchildren, Brittany, Jaden, Jason, Noah and Josh.
Mr. Jacobson was preceded in death by his parents and one step-son Robbie Daniels.
Mr. Jacobson was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Karl was a long time business owner in Oakwood, he was co-owner with his mother of the Oakwood Sundaries Drug Store for over 20 years and later owned Fantasia Video. Mr. Jacobson graduated on Dec. 2, 1964, from the U.S. Army Special Warfare School at Fort Bragg, N.C. Karl had worked in law enforcement in South Texas as Border Patrol, East St. Louis and Hannibal, he also work in explosives in building demolition. He was a member of the Salt River Gun Range, and enjoyed collecting guns, rocks, scuba diving, exploring caves, reading, computers and traveling out west.
