  • He didn’t drop in for a loaf of bread or gallon of milk, but officials with Niemann Foods Inc. were still pleased to see Congressman Sam Graves come walking into the County Market store in Hannibal on Thursday morning.
“That’s exciting,” said Steve Rakers, regional director of operations for Niemann Foods. “It’s right in the middle of construction, but he’ll understand we’re in construction. It will be exiting to see him and meet him, and have him come in and tour our facility.”
Rakers’ sense of anticipation was shared by Steve Hoffman, director of the Hannibal store.
“I’m glad he’s coming to see what we’re doing. I think it’s always good when we can meet the congressman and show what Niemann Foods is bringing to the community,” he said.
After being taken on a tour of the store by Rich Niemann, Jr., Niemann Foods’ president and CEO, Graves praised the facility, which is in the midst of a major renovation.
“This is a fantastic store,” said the congressman. “The grocery store is one of the main places people congregate in a community and I always love to go see a grocery story. And what a great company that we have here. I’m pretty pleased to be able to talk to them and hear what their concerns are, and see what some of the things are they’re trying to do.”
Graves agreed that County Market’s expansion can’t help but have a positive impact on Hannibal.
“It upgrades the community,” he said. “It’s obviously a better work environment for the employees and any time you’re getting an expansion, a lot of times it adds jobs. That’s something that’s very important, particularly in our rural communities.”
