A parish center is being built at 218 S. Maple Ave. in Hannibal. The two-level structure will feature 5,400 square feet.
The parish offices will be housed in the new building. In addition there will be ample space for meetings and funeral luncheons.
There will be a kitchenette, restrooms and storage space for parish records on the lower level. The upper level will have a banquet room with seating for 100 people, a full kitchen and restrooms.
Some additional earth work was under way on Wednesday morning at the work site.
"I think they're digging footings. It's nothing too glamorous," said Janice Rupp of Holy Family Church.
The pouring of the footings will likely be the next step.
"They probably won't do that today," said Rupp, noting that a meeting with the contractor was to occur Thursday. "They have to get the foundation work done before they can start the pretty work."
The projected cost of the construction project is $1,047,000.
The money necessary to pay for the center has already been pledged by church members. The pledges were made over the past year during the "Living our Faith, Building our Vision" fund-raising campaign.
Projected date for completion
It is hoped that the new parish center will be ready for use by early 2014.
