A parish center is being built at 218 S. Maple Ave. in Hannibal. The two-level structure will feature 5,400 square feet.
The parish offices will be housed in the new building. In addition there will be ample space for meetings and funeral luncheons.
There will be a kitchenette, restrooms and storage space for parish records on the lower level. The upper level will have a banquet room with seating for 100 people, a full kitchen and restrooms.
"They've got a big hole in the ground. I would say the earth work as far as digging it out and removing it from the site is done," said Janice Rupp of Holy Family Church.
"I think they probably are getting ready for the footings. That would be my guess. That is going to be what comes next," said Rupp.
The projected cost of the construction project is $1,047,000.
The money necessary to pay for the center has already been pledged by church members. The pledges were made over the past year during the "Living our Faith, Building our Vision" fund-raising campaign.
Projected date for completion
It is hoped that the new parish center will be ready for use by early 2014.
