Birth of Henry Knox, the first Secretary of War
Born a British subject in Boston, Massachusetts, on July 25, 1750, Henry Knox rose to the rank of brigadier general during the American Revolution. Afterwards, Knox was appointed America's first Secretary of War--by the Continental Congress in March 1785, then by the President in Washington's first cabinet in 1789.
