The city of Detroit filed for bankruptcy protection this afternoon. The filing makes the city the biggest one in U.S. history to seek bankruptcy protection. Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr asked a judge for permission to file Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection. Orr previously had told creditors that unless deals were reached on the city’s debt, bankruptcy was in the cards.

    Quote of note

"We rounded the corner and my wife, Valerie, says, ‘The house is gone, David.’ I'm looking at the yard, so I looked and I'm like, 'Wow, OK.'" - David Underwood of Fort Worth, Texas, who drove home with his wife to find their home had been demolished. A demolition crew that was supposed to level a condemned house accidentally tore down the Underwoods’ home.
