WHAT IS IT? The Kiwanis Park playground area has been ground up in anticipation of the installation of new equipment at the site. Work at the park is slated to begin in late July.
Two Hannibal parks will soon feature a drastically different look. New equipment will be installed at Kiwanis Park soon while the process is nearing completion in the Willow Street Community Park.
“Willow is about done,” said Andy Dorian, director of the Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department. “The manufacturer is finishing installing their part of it today (Thursday). We’re going to come in and redo the mulch and then we’re going to put in some swing sets early next week. That playground should be up and running by some time next week.”
Construction at Kiwanis Park is set to begin July 29.
“That should take a few days to install,” said Dorian.
The new equipment is part of a renovation program the Parks Department has undertaken.
“We started with Spooner (Creek Park). We had targeted Spooner, Willow and Kiwanis,” said Dorian. “We are also working on a plan where this spring we are going to install a new, very large shelter at Kiwanis.”
