Travis L. Waples, age 80, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away at home on July 2, 2013. Travis was a former resident of Hannibal and moved to Las Vegas in 2010.
Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, MO at 9 a.m. Pastor Mark Burkey will officiate.
Travis was born on May 16, 1933, in Wayland, MO, to Richard Alfred and Bertha Waples. Travis had two brothers, Carver and Richard Alfred “Shorty” Waples and one sister, Helen Waples (Lester) who survive. Travis had one son, Bradley, who lives in Las Vegas with his wife Rebecca, two grand-daughters, Nicole (Franses - husband Joseph) of Newton, MA, Kristen Waples (fiancé-Pete Lavelle) of Cambridge, MA and two great-grandsons, Alexander and William Franses. Travis married Joyce Thomas in 1958 when he moved to Hannibal. Joyce preceded him in death in 1998.
Travis enlisted in the Army in 1953 and was an Army paratrooper with the 11th airborne until 1956. He worked at the International Shoe Company in Hannibal for several years after marrying. After that he worked as a draftsman for tool design, worked for Marblehead Lime Co., in Quincy, IL, drove a semi-truck for Lomax Trucking Co. and ended his career in 2000 working for American Cyanamid.  
In retirement, Travis enjoyed traveling, watching college and pro football, talking or being in the company of friends but he mostly enjoyed the comfort of a close and loving family. Travis, you will truly be missed.
