Chris Dodd and Bradley Thomure were not surprised to learn they had won the Hannibal Jaycees’ backseat driver contest on Friday, July 5, because they have won it for several years.
Dodd sat in a wheelbarrow and gave directions to Thomure, who was blindfolded as “driver” of the wheelbarrow.
The contestants were timed as they drove around several barriers and returned to the finish line. A point system determined the winners, with points off for hitting the barriers.
Second place went to Airen Ferguson and Toby O’Cheltree. Ferguson gave directions to O’Cheltree.
After completing their turn around the route, Ashley Stevenson said her brother, Tyler, did not give good directions. “He was awful,” she reported.
Another family team was brothers Daniel and Isaac Truesdale.
This contest was among three Hannibal Jaycees’ events Friday afternoon on a parking lot near Tanyard Gardens.
It was followed by the Tom and Becky Relay.
This event was won by the Thomure family team.
Later the Mighty “Miss” Raft Race took place.
The winning team was composed of Bradley Thomure and Ashley Stevenson.
