For some reason, several people have asked my about my review policy lately, so I’m going to explain it here.
If a brewery sends me beer, it’s not guaranteed I will review it. I review brand new to the market beers, but if its a beer that is released year in and year out, I’m not going to review it. I also typically only review beers that are available in Massachusetts.
Also just because a beer is sent to me and I decide to review it does not mean there will be a good review. I try to be truthful in my reviews. I will treat the beer the same if I buy it or if it’s sent to me. There will be no extra points just because I got the beer in the mail and did not have to pay for it. If I like the beer, I will give it a favorable review. If not, I won’t.
Also, I often get products and books in the mail. Again, just because it has been sent to me, I will not promise a review. Sometimes a product comes and I just don’t think it’s of interest to my readers.
And, the same policy applies to products or books sent to me. If I like it, I will recommend it to people. If I don’t, I won’t. Free doesn’t make a product better or worse.
The reason for my policy is I want readers to trust what I’m saying. I may love a beer that they don’t, but I want them to know that my love is based on my real taste and not because it came to me for free.
And that’s basically it.
