Wilberta Hortense Rigney, 87, of Palmyra, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra.
Wilberta was born October 5, 1925, in Marion County, Missouri, to Wilbert and Ruth Geer Powell.
Wilberta was married to Junior E. Rigney June 25, 1946, in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death April 12, 1960.
Survivors include daughter, Pam Behring of Palmyra; sister, Jerry Martin of Olathe, Kan.; grandchildren, Nicole Boydston, Kimberly Frost, Melissa Behring and Crystal Behring; great-grandchildren, Briana Eads, Parker Marshall, Shilo Boydston, Levi Boydston, Jonah Boydston and Max Boydston.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and a daughter, Janice Frost.
Mrs. Rigney was a 1942 graduate of Palmyra High School and later graduated from Gem City Business College in Quincy, Illinois. She was retired from the Palmyra Savings & Building Bank in Palmyra, Missouri. Wilberta was a secretary at the Palmyra Nutrition Center. She also volunteered as an OATS officer and at the Maple Lawn Auxiliary. Mrs. Rigney loved to visit with family and friends, enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals, and cherished the time she devoted to her grandchildren. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Palmyra, Missouri, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the ladies aid.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. today, June 18, 2013, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. The Rev. David Johnson will officiate. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra, Missouri.
Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2013 at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel.
