I walked into the editorial office Thursday, May 30, my head full of expectations I had tried to deny of existence. Despite my efforts to distance myself from expectations, they clung to me like a cat in a bath. Many of these expectations were not met, in fact most of them, but this was not a negative. For example, I found the people more enjoyable than I expected, relieved by the sarcastic and witty humor that often filled the air (I pride myself on my sarcasm, I can’t even tell if I’m being sarcastic about this statement, in fact). Thus, I began working on my first assignments, nervous or excited or both; I could not discern where the nerves stopped and the excitement began. My first official task was proofreading, not the most exciting, but I was fine with that. My proofreading gave me some nice news insight, including some about Dan Brown’s new book which I’ve seen multiple times since while shopping, and of course I flaunted my knowledge to my friends who were with me. The rest of my time I learned the ins and outs of the office, the paper, and the website, along with meeting all of the individuals I would be working with directly and indirectly (so many names in one day!). Overall, it was a very nice experience and made me look forward to the rest of the summer even more so than I was previously. The only embarrassment of the day was the fact that I parked in the wrong place, but I got the parking situation down now, so no worries!
I am now at my second day and it is even better than the first, as I am making this blog which I am thoroughly enjoying! I am quite excited now, not nervous, about the summer to come and I hope you enjoy the ride with me.
Hasta luego!
