  • James D. Borrowman, age 76, passed away Thursday evening, May 23, 2013, at the Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill.
Jim was born at Pleasant Hill, Ill., on February 6, 1937, to Virgil and Pauline Hall Borrowman.
He married Evelyn Chase in Barry, Ill., on October 5, 1957, and she survives.
Jim graduated from West Pike High School in 1955 and began farming along with his family immediately thereafter. He continued his love for farming until his death. Jim had a passion for learning and enjoyed reading, keeping up with the latest technologies, history and current events.
He didn’t know a stranger and thrived on listening to people’s stories and learning from them. He loved to visit with family and friends, and reached out to so many through Facebook, sharing the pictures he loved to take. Jim was a sports enthusiast and competitor who mastered waterskiing, pool and billiards, golf and tennis over the years. In his early years, he and his brothers owned a plane that he loved to fly. He thoroughly enjoyed attending all his grandchildren’s sports activities.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; three sons, Larry of Barry, and Richard (wife Larissa) and Chris (wife Jill), both of New Canton, Ill. Two daughters, Carol (husband Kent) Schien of Chesterfield, Mo., and Becky Borrowman of Barry, also survive along with a brother, Jack (wife Joyce) Borrowman of Hannibal, Mo.; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Borrowman of Pittsfield. Jim is also survived by 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and Gerald Borrowman; and a grandson, Cody Borrowman.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, Ill., with Becky Clark officiating. Burial will be at the Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry.
Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be left to the New Canton First Responders.
