  • It probably isn’t noteworthy that five-member group of men could be found at the fifth hole tee box Friday afternoon on the Hannibal Country Club Golf Course. What made it newsworthy is that there was not a golf club or ball to be found in the group.
Chris Fohey, Larry David, Larry Naggatz, Buddy Tarleton and Bruce Athman were not there to play a round of golf, but to re-sod the course.
“We’ve finished the fairways,” said David. “Now we’re replacing the grass on the tee boxes.”
A roll of sod, just a few feet wide, would be attached behind a tractor. As the tractor moved, the sod would unroll upon areas of earth that had been stripped bare. After the strips were put down the men would get down on their knees, or in some cases all fours, and finish tugging the grass into place.
Zoysia grass is being planted on the golf course.
“It’s drought resistant. We’ve had so much trouble with our grass,” said Tarleton.
Tarleton noted that the sod was being put down in such a way that there are noticeable gaps on the fairways between the strips.
“It’s a creeper grass. Those strips will all grow together,” he said.
    The project is progressing.
“We should be done within a week, provided the weather cooperates,” said David as a light rain fell on the golf course.
