  • Harold Eugene ”Gene” Ketsenburg, 69, of Monroe City, MO, passed away Wednesday May 15, 2013 at the Monroe City Manor surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy battle with Parkinson Disease.
    Gene was born on February 7, 1944 in Monroe City, the son of Julius T., Sr. and Opal Lee (Berry) Ketsenburg.
    Gene and Donna Abell were united in marriage, March 7, 1964, at Holy Rosary Catholic Rectory in Monroe City, MO.
    Gene worked for Bleigh Construction for many years before beginning his love of the land by farming.  Gene was a dedicated livestock and row crop farmer, and was recognized with the National Environmental Stewardship Award. He was on the Ralls County Extension Council, he and his family were honored to be a State Fair Family, and he was also a 4-H Leader.
    Gene really enjoyed collecting Indian Relics and boating on the Mark Twain Lake.  He enjoyed having his 1932 Chevrolet Coupe restored, as it became his favorite toy.  Gene especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
    Along with his wife, Gene is survived by his children, David Ketsenburg (Laura) of Monroe City, Rosanne Hays (Todd) of Monroe City, Gena Maher (Greg) of Monroe City; grandchildren, Donnie Hays, and Fiancé’ Ashley Kendrick, Juliana Hays, Michael Maher, Davy Ketsenburg, Logan Maher, and Dylan Maher; sisters, Phyllis Olson (Harold) of Monroe City, Elizabeth Gander (Don) of Palmyra, Mary Ann Rampley (Keith) of Monroe City; brothers, Rev. Julius Ketsenburg , Jr  (Carolyn) of Macon, Tony Ketsenburg of Monroe City, Bob Ketsenburg  (Dian) of Monroe City.
    Gene was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew, Joe Paul Gander, and a niece, Candy Abell.
    A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 am Tuesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Mike Quinn officiating.  Burial will follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Monday from 5-8 pm, at the Yager-Kendrick Funeral Home in Monroe City, MO, with a prayer service to be held at 8pm, at the funeral home.  
    Memorial donations are suggested to the Monroe City FFA, or Monroe City Nutrition Center in care of Yager-Kendrick Funeral Home 545 Stoddard Street, Monroe City, MO 63456.
