John Whaley of Shenandoah, TX passed from this earthly life at 2:28 a.m. on May 13, 2013, after a fierce battle with cancer. He was born Johnny Franklin Whaley on April 25, 1948, to Paul Richmond and Fannie Ruth Asher Whaley in Hannibal, MO and was preceded in death by his parents and only brother, Charles William Whaley.
He is survived by his children, Michele Renee Whaley Keener and Patrick Andrew Whaley; 2 granddaughters, Brittany Michelle Whaley and Ava Christine Keener; ex-wife Kathleen King Whaley; 4 sisters-in-law, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
He attended school in a rural one room school house in Spalding, MO through the 8th grade until entering high school where he graduated from Mark Twain High School in Center, MO in 1966. John was a retired employee of AT&T (Southwestern Bell, SBC) after 41 years of service. He began employment in the field on March 10, 1969, in St. Louis, MO in construction, transferred to I/R Technician and eventually to I/R Management. He and his family moved to Houston in 1977 and moved to the City of Shenandoah in 1989 where his children and grandchildren still reside. He was member of the South Texas Chapter of Pioneers.
John was a former member of Living Word Lutheran Church, The Woodlands where he served as an Elder for many years. He was baptized and confirmed at Resurrection Lutheran Church, Spring, TX on June 10, 1984. His favorite Bible verse was Isaiah 40:31.
Cremation arrangements are being made through McNutt Funeral Home, 1600 Porter Road in Conroe, TX. A celebration of his life memorial for family and friends will be held at 4 p.m. on May 17, 2013, in the funeral home chapel.
