  • Services for Earl (Sleepy) Kline Jr., 87, of Hannibal, formerly of Perry, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Bienhoff Funeral Home in Perry, with Reverend Roger Huff officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester, Ill. Military honors will be provided by Perry VFW Post 4088.
    Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Mr. Kline passed away at 12:20 p.m. May 13, 2013, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home, Palmyra.     
    He was born January 3, 1926, in Colchester, Illinois, the son of Earl Sr. and Ruth Thompson Kline.
    He was married to Katherine Inman on September 27, 1945, in Rock Island, Ill. and she preceded him in death October 19, 1993. He then married Trudy Runyon Cook on March 4, 1995, in Monroe City and she survives.
    Other survivors include: two sons and their spouses, Billy and Linda Cook of Philadelphia and Johnny Wayne and Tammy Cook of Hannibal; one daughter and her husband, Debbie and Neal Green of New London; one brother and his wife, William and Yvonnie Kline of Tampa, FL; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Wayne Kline, and two grandchildren, Travis Caskey and Dustin Cook.
    Mr. Kline served in the US Army during World War II from May 4, 1944 until September 21, 1945, and attained the rank of PFC. He moved to this area in 1967 and attended Ariel Christian Church. He farmed and worked construction with the Operating Engineers Local #513 for over 30 years. He was a life member of the Perry VFW Post 4088. He enjoyed running and watching stock car races, cardinal baseball and loved to coon hunt.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or the Hannibal Nutrition Center.
    Pallbearers will be Johnny Cook, Neal Green, Jimmy Woodhurst, Ronnie Woodhurst, Brian Woodhurst and Tim Inman. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Kline, Tom Coomes, and Billy Cook.
