  • The Hannibal Free Public Library is now providing digital microfilm scanners.
Purchased with a Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services grant, administered by the Missouri State Library, and local funding, this equipment can be used to read, print and scan microfilm of Hannibal newspapers from 1838 to the present day. The library has additional microfilm as well, and microfilm can be borrowed from other libraries, too.
Images can be improved before they are printed or digitized. The equipment is also capable of scanning microfiche and microcards. Scans and print-outs cost 25 cents each. Some copyright restrictions apply.
Hannibal Library staff plan public demonstrations of the new equipment on at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11; at 6 p.m. Monday, May 20; and at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 13. A demonstration of the new equipment will be provided during the Beginning Genealogy Workshop from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, June 15.
Pre-registration is requested at these demonstrations as class size is limited. To pre-register, contact the library at (573) 221-0222, or visit at 200 South Fifth St. Library staff will also schedule times for a demonstrations for clubs or organizations.
